What it means in practice

The booking links and availability widgets here go to GetYourGuide, a licensed online travel agency. If you book after following one, GetYourGuide pays me a percentage of what you spent. You pay exactly what you would have paid going to GetYourGuide directly, because the commission comes out of their margin rather than your pocket. Prices printed on this site are the “from” figures GetYourGuide displayed at the time of writing, and the widget beside them re-prices by date, option and party size.

What it does not mean

It does not buy a recommendation, and the shape of this site is the evidence. The advice I give most often is that an Indian visitor should buy the gate ticket from the ASI and skip everything else here except the free advice, and I earn precisely nothing when somebody does that. The same applies to the two gate prices and the opening hours, which are the two most useful pages on the site and the two least profitable.

What I am not

Not the Archaeological Survey of India, not the Red Fort, not a tour operator and not GetYourGuide. Gate fees quoted here are the ASI’s published position at the time of writing, always hedged and never presented as my prices — confirm them before you travel. I never name the operator behind a listing, and I name a guide only where a reviewer named him first. Ratings and review counts are copied from GetYourGuide unrounded and always sit beside a live widget, so you can see the current figure rather than mine. Individual reviews were recoverable for only one of the six listings, so five of the write-ups at the reviews open by telling you exactly that instead of inventing people who never wrote anything.
